Current obsession related to wood properties. Most breeding programs start with growth, form and — maybe — disease resistance/tolerance. If we wanted to start all over again, what would happen if we focused on product quality (particularly related to wood properties) and then if we could grow the trees particularly well.
I have been doing some work on this with John Walker (see papers in SWST conference and my paper in Annals of Forest Science 2009).
